POPPY sales have raised [pounds sterling]27,000 for people affected by military conflicts.
The people of Hartlepool have been praised for their outstanding response to this year's poppy appeal.
The money raised from poppy sales is the highest ever in town by the Royal British Legion. It beats the previous best by more than [pounds sterling]4,000.
Ian Cameron, a taxi firm owner who has led the town's poppy appeal for the last five years, said he was "lost for words" at the generosity of town residents.
