THE proposal to site a synthetic sports pitch at Sandy Bay may well have hit the rocks with planners.

The Larne Times has learned that although no formal recommendation has been made, planners' initial opinion is that the application should be refused.

It is believed that the proposed pitch may be turned down because of potential unacceptable noise levels, visual disturbance and loss of amenity to nearby residents.

It is also understood that Larne Council has been made aware of the planners' initial opinion to refuse and that the authority has until today (Thursday) to defend the application.
