Article: Schaufuss out after one year in Denmark. (Peter Schaufuss, artistic director of the Royal Danish Ballet)

COPENHAGEN--Peter Schaufuss was released from his seven-year contract as artistic director of Royal Danish Ballet (RDB), effective June 30, after only one year. Schaufuss cited frustrations with the bureaucracy at the Royal Theater and a desire to concentrate on creative work. There have been persistent reports, however, that he was asked to resign. Assistant ballet master Johnny Eliasen will serve as acting director for the 1995-96 season. Schaufuss will return next season to stage Frederick Ashton's Romeo and Juliet and to choreograph his first full-length ballet, Hamlet, as scheduled. He has announced no further plans.
