AGAINST GREEN LIVING DEMANDS and the threat of catastrophic global warming, the individual pursuit of expression must eventually find an equilibrium. This might mean less heavy ceramics and fewer firings, but total austerity living is unthinkable. In 1945 after six years of war, the world longed for colour, pleasurable aesthetic experiences and personal artistic expression without propaganda.
We need to make ceramics that help to develop a practical and enjoyable culture. Our public needs to rediscover glazed ceramics. This is a plea for more glazes now as a preparation for the future. Potters, ceramists, must be able to justify ...
