One of the first Hispanics appointed to the federal bench in the Southern District of Florida has now become that court's first Hispanic chief judge.

Federico Moreno, who first joined the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 1990, succeeded Judge William J. Zloch as chief judge on July 1.
Born in Venezuela, Moreno arrived in the United States when he was 13 years old and later received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame and then his law degree from the University of Miami.
