WASHINGTON -- Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia are joining the crowd heading for the exits of the federal program for oxygenated gasoline.
Maryland's formal request to remove Baltimore from the program already has been received by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
A draft proposal to do the same for the three-jurisdiction area of metropolitan Washington also is at EPA, with a formal request expected after September hearings in Maryland, Virginia and the District.
The moves come at a time when oxygenate stocks are building for the approach of the winter fuel season (see story, p.4).
