CHESAPEAKE
Riding on a bus in the 1940s, Amelia Williams came up with the name for the dance hall her father was building, and it suited it perfectly.
The Moonlight Room, a simple, cinder-block building in western Chesapeake with floors worn thin from decades of dancing, is a throwback.
"It's always been a quiet, pleasant place to dance," said Gerrie Waller, a regular since 1962. "And everyone just worshipped Amelia."
