The environmental impact of lowering the water in Lake Cumberland to repair the Wolf Creek Dam may be significant, according to a new report, but it is necessary to prevent potential catastrophe downstream.
The Army Corps of Engineers lowered the southern Kentucky lake earlier this year as an emergency measure and did not have time to study the environmental impact of the action before doing it, as normally would have been required.
A report released this month concludes the decision could impact the entire Cumberland River system.
