BOGOT , Colombia, Dec. 19, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- The leaders of Colombia's FARC guerrillas have decided to free two female hostages and a young boy in a gesture of goodwill toward the hostages' families.

The order to release the hostages was also described as "compensation" for the frustrated mediation efforts made by Venezuelan President Hugo Ch vez and Colombian Senator Piedad Ccentsrdoba, who have been attempting to negotiate a swap of hostages held by the rebels in exchange for the freeing of imprisoned Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) insurgents.
