Compared to the hundreds of vocal competitions worldwide, some going back many decades, the biennial Montreal International Music Competition (Voice) is a relative newcomer. But it has already earned a reputation as one of the best in terms of the caliber of jurors and contestants, the amount of prize money--$90,000 this year--and organizational efficiency. It has also proven a great vehicle to launch the careers of young singers. Past winners enjoy active international careers, and a few have even reached star status.
