After filming "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," Mike Newell was ready for a change of pace, and looked for a project as far removed as possible from teenagers, Britain and broomsticks. Filming the classic novel "Love in the Time of Cholera" with a cast of renowned actors exploring themes of love, maturity and sex was the perfect antidote to Hogwarts. Better yet, he would film it in sunny South America, where he had never set foot. It wasn't quite the vacation he had envisioned.
