A new, minimally invasive sampling technique may enable physicians to diagnose pancreatic cancer at a very early stage when treatment is most likely to succeed, according to an August 1, 2007, news release from the American Association for Cancer Research. Pancreatic cancer often is not detected in its early stages because the pancreas is a fairly inaccessible organ. The two reliable detection techniques currently in use (ie, intensive radiologic scanning, invasive surgery) can put patients at risk.
