The recent departure from Prudential of Donald G. Southwell, who was until June 23 the president of Prudential Insurance and Financial Services, is the latest indication of the internal shakeup already wrought on Prudential Insurance Co. of America by Arthur F. Ryan, chairman and CEO, in his less than one year at the helm, said industry executives.

The company has already been shaken: at this point, insurance departments in 26 states and the District of Columbia are now investigating sales practice violations by Prudential agents as part of a cooperative multi-state task force initiated by the insurance commissioners of New York and New Jersey (see NU, May 1).
