Tax is gone, but not forgotten
Michigan's short-lived service tax may be gone, but the repeal battle that spawned a replacement tax lives on in memory ... in a logo.
The creative folks at Lansing-based Sterling Corp., which handled public relations and coalition management for the Ax the Tax Coalition, have come up with a logo commemorating the coalition's efforts to kill the service tax. The coalition had called only for repeal, but the Legislature in the process handed Michigan's business community a replacement tax, in the form of a 21.99 percent surcharge on the new Michigan Business Tax.
