History was made 50 years ago this month.
A black man named Jackie Robinson signed a contract to play for an all-white baseball team.
The contract was signed on August 28, 1945.
The contract said Robinson would play for the Montreal Royals in the 1946 baseball season. Montreal was the top farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was signed by the president of the Dodgers, Branch Rickey (say it RICK-ee). Rickey's plan was to bring Robinson into the major leagues after a year in Canada.
