COMMONS Speaker Michael Martin faced renewed questions last night afterit emerged that his wife has spent more than [pounds sterling]4,000 of taxpayers' cash ontaxis.

Mary Martin has run up a bill of more than [pounds sterling]1,000 a year using cabs to shop forfood to entertain at the couple's lavish home overlooking the Thames.

Spouses of MPs are normally banned under parliamentary rules from using publicmoney to pay for taxis.
