Sports Authority to increase number of Manhattan sites.(Brief Article)

NEW YORK -- The Sports Authority, which opened its first Manhattan unit last November, wants to open at least four more stores in the borough by the end of next year, according to Jack Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of the category killer.

The 118-store chain is close to signing a lease for its second Manhattan location, a 45,000-square-foot unit in a proposed retail and entertainment complex at Union Square on the southeast side of 14th Street and Broadway, and is searching for sites on the upper East Side, upper West Side and near Wall Street, Smith said in an interview last week.
