A growing number of studies show that patients who consume a high antioxidant diet after suffering a heart attack may be less likely to have another attack and more likely to survive. The studies are part of a growing area of research pointing to the key role that vitamins may play in preventing and treating heart disease.
Although researchers know dietary fats and cholesterol are major factors in the development of heart disease, they have also discovered that they are only part of the problem. Heart disease originates on the molecular level with gene mutations and nutrient interactions. It is here that vitamins may play a protective role.
