THE amount of chewing gum getting stuck on the streets and footpaths of Leeds is down by more than a third, new figures have shown.
According to a survey for the Chewing Gum Action Group, campaigns to persuade people to dispose of their gum properly have had a significant impact.
Leeds saw a 37 per cent drop, but that figure paled into insignificance compared with Oxford, which saw the greatest reduction in chewing gum litter (down 86 per cent), and Blackpool (85 per cent).
Kirklees also saw a big reduction in chewing gum litter (35 per cent)
