The old football players are mostly in their 70s now. From college football they've gone on to careers and families, and now to retirement and grandchildren.

And yet, when they gathered in Eugene for a reunion a few months ago, the years didn't seem to matter, though 50 years have passed since the 1957 University of Oregon football team won the Pacific Coast Conference title and, on New Year's Day of 1958, played top-ranked Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

"Most of the guys I recognized," said Jack Crabtree, the quarterback on that team. "I hadn't seen some of them for 50 years. ... We had a great time.
