In a volatile year that closed with middling gains at the national level, Colorado stocks were once again winners.
The Bloomberg Rocky Mountain News Index was up 17.7 percent on the year. That compares with the Nasdaq's 9.8 percent, the Dow Jones' 6.4 percent and the Standard & Poor's 500 3.5 percent.
The Bloomberg index has beaten the S&P 500 for five straight years, starting in 2003. The margin has often been large: eight to 15 percentage points in four of the five years.
All told, the Bloomberg is up 169 percent in five years, compared with 32 percent for the S&P 500.
