Beer drinkers likely will swallow higher prices and, in the most doomsday of scenarios, some brews might even be temporarily tapped out because of a severe shortage of hops and malted barley.
Charlie Papazian, president of the Boulder-based Brewers Association and founder of the Association of Brewers, said he expects that the price of a six-pack may increase by as much as $1.50.
There's a combination of factors driving up the cost of beer, connoisseurs say. A decade ago, there was a hop surplus, and the United States has since been scaling back its harvest. A fire at a Washington hop warehouse last year destroyed up to $4 ...
