The storied hockey history at St. Peter-Marian is going to get a woman's touch, as the Guardians have started a girls' ice hockey team this winter.

Headmaster Matt Sturgis said for the past few years he has listened to his students clamor for a girls' squad. Each year the students are issued a questionnaire and last year 18 girls inquired about the possibility of starting a team, so Sturgis went to work to get a team together.

"Girls' soccer boomed about 10 years ago and girls' lacrosse is beginning to grow," Sturgis said. "I think girls' hockey is the next big thing."
