This collection of papers has been presented at a workshop in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1999. Its main issues neither deal with millenarian movements alone, nor are they restricted to Melanesian cultures. Cargo cults, as one of the most famous themes in the history of melanesianist anthropology, stand here mainly as a pretext to debate about post-modern culture-critical approaches to culture.
