No one knows what causes Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It may be a single disease, or a common endpoint for a number of different diseases.
Recently a British TV show claimed there exists a connection between SIDS and sleeping on crib mattresses. The theory was that the high concentrations of antimony arising from fungal growth on the polyvinyl chloride (a fire retardant) caused the SIDS.
