A THREATENED ban on building new homes in Calderdale has been scrapped.
Councillors proposed the idea in a bid to preserve employment land and stop the district becoming a dormitory of Leeds and Manchester.
But the proposal attracted criticism and has now been withdrawn after the Govern-ment issued new guidance on house-building targets.
Instead of putting aside enough land for up to 650 properties a year, 650 has now become the minimum.
Figures show that in 2006-7 just under 1,000 new homes were built in Calderdale and a further 334 were created through conversions. In 2007-8, the total is expected to be in the region of 1,170.
