A TEENAGE boy was horrifically attacked by a bull mastiff as he tried to save two six-year-old carol singers from the dog.
Joshua Haley, of Cromwell Road, Southowram, was left bleeding with puncture wounds on his arm, leg and back after being mauled.
The 13-year-old jumped in front of the young singers when the dog got loose. Now Joshua has been hailed a hero by family and friends.
"If the dog had got hold of those two young children it could have killed them," said Joshua's guardian, grandad Geoffrey Haley, 56. "We're very proud of him."
