THE Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds has abandoned its proposal to take over Park Lane High School, at Exley, Halifax.
It also rejected an offer to move into The Ridings School, Ovenden, if councillors decide next week to close it.
It ends months of speculation which began when the Catholic High School, Holmfield, was placed in special measures.
Calderdale Council's education spokesman Craig Whittaker said the diocese wanted to concentrate on improving the Catholic High, whose governors were replaced this summer by an interim executive board.
