GLOWING tributes have been made to Edmund Vestey, owner of the Thurlow Estate and one of the most wealthy and influential landowners in the region, who has died at the age of 75.
Mr Vestey died of cancer on November 23, at his home, Little Thurlow Hall. His funeral at the village's church on Friday was so packed a marquee had to be erected to accomodate mourners.
The third generation to head the Vestey family meat and distribution empire, he was famously publicity-shy.
He has been variously described as a 'gentleman', a 'true country man' and a 'perfectionist' who was 'passionate about the countryside'.
