State Sen. Jason Crowell who is trying to pass legislation to regulate red-light camera use in Missouri said municipalities "violently opposed" a suggestion that camera revenues be transferred to schools.
"If it weren't about the money, why would they care if the money goes to the schools?" he told SJR.
In a Nov. 1 press release, Redflex, the leading U.S. ticket camera supplier, announced the installation of its 1,000th camera. An investor-briefing on the company Web site contends that red-light enforcement could become a $2 to $4 billion industry. Chicago earned 820 million from red-light cameras last year, according to the Chicago Tribune.
