Almost thirty-five years ago my father and I hunted on the Parker Rranch on Hawaii's Big Island. We hunted feral goats and sheep and shared some nights in a cabin lit by a kerosene lantern while tropical rain clattered against the corrugated roof. We made plans to hunt in Kenya together the next year, but as with so many of such plans of ours, he didn't go, and I went by myself.
