To put it simply, more moose are calling Massachusetts home these days because their home range in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine is becoming increasingly crowded.
And for Wayne F. MacCallum, director of the state Division of Fisheries & Wildlife, that presents a challenge.
As with most wildlife species, he said, the moose population may be viewed from two perspectives.
There is the "biological carrying capacity" or the ideal number of a particular species that may be supported within a given area, such as a square mile.
