ABC's "Cashmere Mafia" makes the network's disappointingly glib newcomer "Big Shots" seem insightful by comparison. It's another titans-of-industry-whining/much-ado-about-not-much melodrama that aspires to be amusing but barely manages to be droll.

Too bad, because the principals -- Lucy Liu, Frances O'Connor, Miranda Otto and Bonnie Somerville -- boast both comedic chops and decent chemistry; they're good enough to occasionally con you into thinking you're being entertained.

Alas, they're undone by material that's by turns hackneyed, hoary and not particularly empathetic.
