Demolition crews Tuesday began dismantling Aurora's Buckingham Square mall, clearing the way for a new $110 million shopping center that city officials hope will be the linchpin for the revitalization of the surrounding Havana Street corridor.
Buckingham was one of the first major indoor malls in Colorado when it opened in 1971 and attracted 175,000 visitors a week during its heyday. But the center degenerated into an eyesore in recent years, with only a Target open at the property at South Havana Street and East Mississippi Avenue.
