Work force issues continue to be at the forefront of the corrections agenda. According to the May/June 2007 Corrections Compendium survey, 44 percent of the 44 U.S. correctional systems and four Canadian systems that responded said they are experiencing challenges in the recruitment of correctional officers. In addition, turnover of correctional officers in their first year of employment continues to plague many states. Four of the states responding reported turnover rates exceeding 40 percent in the first year.
These are among the issues being addressed by the ACA Work Force Project and the recently opened Center for the Correctional Work Force of the Future. ...
