For the first time since 2004, the state of Oregon will accept new enrollees into the Oregon Health Plan Standard benefits package.

State officials say they expect to add about 2,000 clients per month, from March through January 2009, in the Standard program, and will set up a lottery to pick who gets in.

The Standard benefit package serves low-income Oregon adults age 19 to 65 who do not qualify for traditional Medicaid but earn less than the federal poverty level ($20,650 per year for a family of four).
