One of the most intimidating pitchers in Major League Baseball history was a jumble of nerves until his phone rang Tuesday.
Even after Goose Gossage heard he was the only former player inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by a vote of the sport's writers, he had trouble gaining his composure.
"It was like being hit with an anvil or brick on the head; it was crushing," Gossage said. "If somebody would have said I will go into the Hall of Fame when my career started, I would laughed and said, 'You're crazy.'
