Rock solid: St. Armands Circle rallies to save some of its oldest residents.(AROUND THE CIRCLE)

St. Armands Circle is home to boutiques, restaurants and galleries, but the Circle is also the home of a collection of 16 Ringling-era statues that had fallen into a sad state of disrepair--until recently, that is.

"Christopher Columbus, who faces the Circle on John Ringling Boulevard, is missing a hand, and many of the other statues are missing various body parts as well," explains Edward Pinto, the Sarasota businessman and St. Armands resident who spearheaded the Circle's "Save Our Statues" fund-raising initiative.
