NEW YORK -- Diabetics are particularly vulnerable to such foot problems as sores, loss of circulation and degeneration of the nerves that can lead to even more serious complications.
While physicians are aware of this, a substantial number basically ignore the feet when patients come in for checkups. A survey by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) reveals that 73% of respondents say their primary care physicians never inspect their feet.
Checking the feet for such common symptoms as numbness, swelling and coldness due to circulation problems can help those at risk prevent serious complications, points out an APMA spokesman.
