American consumers spent more than $29.2 billion online during the 2007 holiday shopping season, from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, according to a recent study. Reston, Va.-based Internet research firm comScore Inc. reported today that the total is 19% higher than the same period last year. The heaviest online spending, of $881 million, occurred on Dec. 10. By comparison, consumers spent $733 million online on the first Monday after Thanksgiving, dubbed "Cyber Monday" because of the expectation that consumers will continue weekend holiday shopping from computers at work.
