History Matters

Last May I got the news that American Heritage magazine was suspending publication. I was shocked and upset. I may be dating myself, but I remember in my childhood we had row after row of white, hard-bound editions lining our bookshelves. In those pages I discovered the world of history and have been fascinated by that world ever since.
Of course, history is relative. For young people entering into the printing business today, layout sheets and waxers are history. (Hot type and California job cases are ancient history.) Depending on when you came into the industry, these things might be history to you, too. Or they ...
