"In the '80s I went to LA to be a studio guitarist," says 42-year-old Jimmy Bruno, a native of Philadelphia. "When I got there, I called Tommy Tedesco out of the blue. Although he didn't know me from Adam, he got me a couple of dates, and we later recorded two albums together. If it hadn't been for him, I probably would have just stayed in my apartment. The studio scene was getting worse, and there didn't seem to be a spot for a new player. There also wasn't a big audience for straight-ahead jazz. Playing for $35 and a pizza got old after a while."
