MANY of the greatest names in Merseyside's footballing past are set to come together in Liverpool's historic year as European Capital of Culture to celebrate the city's unrivalled sporting heritage.

Legends including Liverpool's Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish, Bruce Grobbelaar, and Ron Yeats plus Everton greats Peter Reid, Andy Gray, Howard Kendall, Joe Royle and Dave Watson are set to be among a host of ex Goodison and Anfield stars attending the Liverpool Echo's Merseyside Sports Personality of the Year Awards night next month.
