Last month, British teacher Gillian Gibbons was sentenced to 15 days in prison by a court in Khartoum after being found 'guilty of insulting religion' because her class of seven-year-old children named a teddy bear Mohammed. Although many British 'Muslim leaders' criticised the Sudanese authorities for bringing the charge in the first place, the condemnation by Muslims of the Khartoum government--with its appalling record on human rights should have been much stronger.
