Food availability is a basic, critical habitat component that often limits reproductive success and survival of breeding birds (Martin 1987, Rodenhouse and Holmes 1992). Distribution and abundance of food have been correlated with population size of birds and are major factors in habitat selection and use (Wiens 1989, Block and Brennan 1993).
