A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced Texas oilman Oscar Wyatt to one year and one day in federal prison, well below federal sentencing guidelines, for paying kickbacks under the UN oil-for-food program.

An emotional Wyatt, 83, told the court before sentencing that, "My opinions, in many ways, probably caused me to skirt too close to the law and for that I was wrong and for that I am truly sorry."
