AN ancient beech tree which stands in the centre of a housing estate in Kirkcaldy is to be chopped down.
The 250 year old copper beech in Raith Estate has been found to be diseased and in a dangerous state, and, despite a tree preservation order, experts have advised that it needs to come down.
Fife Council's woodlands officer Mark Horsburgh said the council had become aware of the state of the tree after a large branch suddenly dropped off in September.
