Project workers are expected to find out this week if they have secured a grant to redevelop a former no-go area into gardens celebrating Sudbury's silk weaving heritage.
Siam Gardens was closed nearly two years ago after it became a magnet for anti-social behaviour. Residents close to the gardens, in Gaol Lane, demanded the gates were locked amid complaints it was being used by drunks and drug-users.
Those same residents have now given their blessing to a scheme to transform the gardens into a peaceful area that shows the town's rich weaving history.
