Fifth Street Public Market owner Brian Obie said Tuesday that he has begun preliminary negotiations and planning for what may become downtown Eugene's first new hotel since the Hilton Eugene was built in 1982.
Obie envisions 65 to 70 guest rooms and about 15 additional condominium units in a hotel that could rise as many as eight stories from a portion of the market property. He expects to invest $25 million in the project if it goes forward, but cautioned that issues must first be worked out with the city of Eugene and Lane County.
