Ike Turner recorded Rocket 88 in 1951 when he was just 19 years old. He received $60 for a song that gave birth to rock 'n' roll music. By most accounts, Turner should have been known as the Father of Rock 'n' Roll.

But he wasn't.

"Rather than put me in history for the first record in history, people would rather say, 'It was believed,'" Turner told JET in what would be his last interview.

The king of rhythm, a prolific guitarist, pianist, songwriter and bandleader, died Dec. 12 at his home in San Marcos, CA. He was 76. The cause of death was unknown, but Turner told JET last summer he had been battling ...
